Though not at all a typical tourist center
there are lots of things to do.
The Bay is great for kayaking, surfing, snorkeling and
has excellent shore fishing. There is a walking trail
along the ocean and the 1960 lava flow. Dramatically
beautiful with many safe and easy accesses to the bay
and ponds this area has NO traditional white sandy beaches.
A laminated guide map at the house
will direct you to 6 unique ocean and bay accesses.

Kapoho Bay

The mouth of the champagne pond as it meets the ocean.

The Champagne Pond is a treasure of Kapoho Bay.

The path to the beach and ocean shoreline walking trail
is a few houses away and the large, beautiful Champagne Pond is
easily accessed down our private walkway.
The Champagne Pond is also geothermally
heated fresh water mixing with the open ocean and numerous
tropical fish and green sea turtles coming in and out with the tides.
The water is calm and clear, and at about 87 degrees, perfect
for snorkeling, swimming and relaxing.
We provide beach towels, boogie boards, noodles, fins and snorkel
stuff. Be sure and bring one of those inexpensive disposable underwater cameras if you want photos of the sea turtles.

Aerial view from out over the ocean of Ahalanui.

Less than 5 minutes away is a beautiful site and wonderful experience.

Ahalanui a.k.a. "The Hot Pod"
is a spring and ocean fed pond with a manmade wall
and an inlet separating it from the ocean. The pond is
volcanically heated to a comfortable 90 degrees or so.

Kapoho Tide Pools
are in the next community down the coast and
about 2 miles from the house.

The tidal ponds are spring-fed, brackish pools and tide pools.
All of the pools are interconnected and can easily be snorkeled
from one to the other depending on the tides.
Easy for a novice snorkeler as the area is protected from the
normal size waves. Many fish and variety of corals to see.

Kehena Beach from above.
Kehena Beach
is a black sand beach, 20 minutes down the coast .
The beach rests beneath a low sea cliff.
The ocean is a bit tricky for swimming, so concentrate on
sunning yourself on one of the two patches of sand that is
sheltered by a shade of coconut trees. The beach is also known
for the many dolphins that frequent the area in winter
and for being unofficially clothing optional.
